how to clean a stained toilet bowl

We’ve all been there. You have a guest over and they come back from the bathroom telling you that your toilet bowl is looking a little rough. You sigh and agree because you know.

Sometimes life just moves too fast and you don’t have the time to dedicate to cleaning a toilet bowl. Luckily, we’re gonna tell you some quick and easy methods on how to clean a stained toilet bowl that will leave it as fresh as ever. Let’s take a look.

Basic Scrubbing

While the stains resting at the bottom of the bowl may seem disastrous and hard to remove, it’s possible that it’s just one wipe away from revealing that sparkling white toilet bowl. Luckily, all you need is a scrubber or brush of some kind. Simply take your tool of choice and just brush away the stains.

This works best with a toilet brush, which typically can be sold alongside plungers, so that way you can clean it without getting your hands too far in the bowl. Other tools such as sponges and iron wool will work too but are more unsanitary. It also helps to dip your cleaning tool into the toilet water and then scrub, but of course, if you aren’t using a toilet brush or a cleaning tool with an extended handle, you don’t have to do this.

Stain Removing Solutions

If the basic scrubbing doesn’t leave your toilet gleaming, it’s time to move on to something a little stronger. There are quite a few cleaning solutions that you can get at the store, but most of the time, you don’t have the time or sometimes can’t spend the money to get these. With these methods, you likely have everything you need already in your home.

The first method is a classic: good old baking soda and vinegar. Take a cup of vinegar and pour it into the toilet, making sure to swirl it around with your toilet brush. After about a minute, add a cup of baking soda, two more cups of vinegar, wait for 10 minutes, swish it around some more so you can make sure to get every stain, wait another 30 minutes, and then all you have to do is scrub and flush.

If you don’t have baking soda, you can do this same method, but with borax. If you use the borax method, be sure to pour in 1/4 cup of borax first and then add your one cup of vinegar. Swish it, let it sit for 20 minutes, give it a scrub, and then you are good to go.

If you don’t have any of these products, look around your home for some bleach as bleach can clean just about anything.

Other Methods

There are toilet cleaning products out there that you can attach to your toilet bowl. These products will maintain the cleanliness of your toilet bowl over time. You’ll just have to replace them every now and again.
